For those who want to experience combat but are tired of being in the infantry, these are some games you should consider. These titles allow you to command your own vehicle, whether a tank, a plane, or a ship.

So, if you want to fight in the front lines from the comfort of your home, choose one of these games and start facing off with the enemy.

1. World of Tanks

This game was one of the first titles to have a massively multiplayer online battle arena when it launched in 2010. If you want to experience driving tanks from before World War 2 to the late Cold War period, then this game is for you.

World of Tanks is different from most other shooting games because you have to think and cooperate to win. While it might be fun to just charge headlong towards the enemy without support or communicating with your teammates, that’s a guarantee you won’t survive until the end of the game.

And while the tanks inside the game aren’t necessarily 100% accurate, with some of them based on prototypes or fictional tanks, collecting all of them can also be fun. Best of all, World of Tanks supports cross-platform play. You can download World of Tanks on Mac, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.

They also offer a more arcade version called World of Tanks Blitz. This is a bit more simplified than the original World of Tanks, but lets you play it across more devices. Aside from the Mac, PC, and Xbox, you can also download and install the Blitz version on Android, iOS, and the Nintendo Switch.

2. Crossout

If realistic tank battles are not your thing, you might want to try battle in the bleak landscape of Crossout. This Mad Max-like game doesn’t just let you choose vehicles to drive; instead, it lets you build combat vehicles your way.

Its focus on crafting and customization ensures that you’ll be hard-pressed to find two similar vehicles in the field. Furthermore, the games damage model focuses on modularity. That means as long as your main cabin is intact, you can keep on fighting. This forces players to become creative in building their battlewagons, ensuring that the most crucial pieces are buried deep within layers of protection.

The game also features three factions that offer varying rewards based on your play style. There are the Lunatics that focus on fast, lightly armored vehicles. The Nomads have a more rounded tactic, balancing armor and firepower on their cars. Lastly, the Scavengers are the game’s tanks, preferring heavily armored trucks and slow-firing cannons.

You can download the game on multiple platforms, including Android, iOS, Windows, Xbox, and PlayStation. This ensures that you can play the game no matter what device you’re using. Unfortunately, each platform has its server; you can forget about cross-platform play and progress.

3. World of Warplanes

This is another offering from Wargaming, but instead of focusing on vehicular land combat, you’re going to take your fight to the skies. The aircraft covered in this game ranges from pre-World War 2 biplanes to the first generation jet aircraft.

You’ll find five different aircraft types in the game: fighters, heavy fighters, multirole fighters, bombers, and attack aircraft. Each class would have its specialty, ranging from close air-to-air dogfights to ambushes, from tactical dive-bombing to strategic carpet bombing, and ground strafing.

Don’t expect the game to be an accurate flight simulator. It’s more of an arcade game with advanced capabilities, making it easy to learn and play. However, it’s not terribly realistic, especially its flight mechanics.

Nevertheless, if you want to take to the skies without the hassle of extra training and shoot down some bad guys, then World of Warplanes is for you.

4. Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown

Ace Combat 7 offers both a story and a battle arena mode, allowing players to choose how they want to play. While World of Warplanes only lets you fly old aircraft, Ace Combat 7 sports an all-jet fleet. The games enable you to fly almost all modern aircraft from the US, Europe, and Russia.

This list includes iconic aircraft, such as:

F-4E Phantom II F-104C Starfighter A-10C Thunderbolt II F-14D Super Tomcat F-15C Eagle F-15E Strike Eagle F-16C Fighting Falcon F/A-18F Super Hornet F-22A Raptor F-35C Lightning II Dassault Rafale M Eurofighter Typhoon Saab JAS 39 Gripen E MiG-21bis Fishbed MiG-31B Foxhound Su-30 Flanker Su-34 Fullback

Aside from these, you can find other aircraft unique to the Ace Combat universe.

Ace Combat 7’s gameplay is more like an arcade than a simulator, allowing you to play it much easier. That means you don’t need to spend hours trying to learn the game, letting you mix it up as soon as you finish installing it.

5. War Thunder

All the above titles focus only on land and air battles. But if you want to fight in all three—navy, air force, and armor—War Thunder is the only way to go. This game lets you fight in all three theaters, letting you battle in whatever vehicle you like.

Furthermore, the game covers an array of vehicles from different eras. If you pick ground vehicles, you start from early pre-world war two tanks and end with Gulf War armor. The aviation line lets you fly fighters from the same pre-world war two era, ending with Vietnam War jets. You can also fly helicopters if you choose.

Naval gameplay lets you pick between coastal and blue-water fleets. You get to command Frigates and Motor Torpedo Boats with coastal, while blue-water ships give you access to Cruisers and Battleships.

But what makes this game unique is the ability to play with combined arms. If you pick Realistic Battles, you can either play with tanks, aircraft, and helicopters in Tank mode; or ships and planes in Naval mode.

So, if you want a more holistic way to fight, then War Thunder is the way to go. This game is available on Windows, macOS, Linux, Playstation, and Xbox.

It’s Time to Roll Out

Vehicle-based battle arena games are a fresh take on the classic first-person shooter genre. Instead of focusing on fast-paced action, you must coordinate better with your allies, so you can gain the upper hand. If you just blindly run headlong into the fight, you won’t last five minutes in the war.

These games are easy to learn but hard to master. If you want to simply enjoy the fight, then these titles are fun to play. But those who are after a challenge will also appreciate them, as the process of leveling up, building your vehicle collection, and mastering the fight takes time and effort.

Whatever skill level or goal you have when playing these games, you will enjoy them. It’s about time you download, install, and play these titles.
