Paranormal Activity is one of the most popular Blumhouse horror movies and also the earliest horror film that the company put out. After its 2007 release, fans of the genre realized that the company was one to watch and now people can count on Blumhouse to release many awesome scary films each year.
Paranormal Activity was a massive hit and has made $107,918,810 domestically and $193,355,800 worldwide. According to The Guardian, the film’s budget was $15 million. While there are some overrated found footage horror movies, Paranormal Activity felt fresh and exciting at the time of release, as a young couple are terrorized in their home by spirits, and the franchise has seven films now.
The 2019 horror movie Glass is part of the same M. Night Shyamalan trilogy as Unbreakable (2000) and Split (2016) and features characters with unique abilities. James McAvoy’s character Kevin Wendell Crumb, also known as The Horde, can change into 23 personalities. Samuel L. Jackson’s character Elijah Price, also called Mr. Glass, is a brilliant killer with a condition called Type 1 Osteogenesis imperfecta that means he has to use a wheelchair. Bruce Willis played David Dunn, also known as The Overseer, who is a vigilante.
Glass did really well, too, with a domestic box office gross of $111,048,468 and worldwide gross of $246,999,039. As it turns out, Glass was made for $20 million and Shyamalan actually paid for it, according to Syfy.com. The publication reported that the director financed Split and The Village and then used that money to make Glass, along with using his Pennsylvania property as collateral. While not everyone loves all of his films, the director is definitely creative and devoted to continuing to work in the horror space.
The 2018 Halloween was much anticipated and it has been one of Blumhouse’s most profitable releases, making $159,342,015 at the box office domestically and $255,614,941 worldwide. This makes it Blumhouse’s second highest-grossing horror movies.
Fans couldn’t wait to see the iconic Halloween villain Michael Myers again and see how Jamie Lee Curtis’s character Laurie Strode is doing all of these years later. When compared to the 1978 original movie, it’s hard to say that the 2018 one is better or even comparable, but it’s tough for a contemporary Halloween to compete with a film that is so beloved by so many. It’s definitely interesting to see Laurie older and with a family.
After Get Out was released in 2017, it made $255,745,157 in global box office revenue, which is definitely unsurprising for fans of the intelligent, impressive, haunting, and poltiical film. Daniel Kaluuya’s performance as Chris Washington is incredible and there is so much depth to this movie as Chris meets his girlfriend Rose Armitage’s (Allison Williams) parents and learns how incredibly racist and horrible they are.
In 2018, Jason Blum told Variety that a second Get Out would have to be Jordan Peele’s idea: “If Jordan wants to do a sequel, I’ll do it in a second, but it has to come from Jordan Peele. I think he’s flirting with the idea.” Fans would love to see a Get Out sequel, but until then, the Blumhouse movies being released in 2022 are sure to be big successes as well.
Split tells the story of Kevin Wendell Crumb and also stars Anya-Taylor Joy as Casey Cooke, a high schooler who Kevin’s personality Dennis kidnaps. The Village has a creepy twist and while not every M. Night Shyamalan horror film is considered to be great, fans really like Glass and Split and find them to be interesting and action-packed.
While audiences liked Glass, Split was even more of a box office success, making $138,291,365 domestically and $278,454,417 worldwide. Shyamalan told Den Of Geek that he really loves and cherishes the creative process of working with Jason Blum, explaining, “Jason and I, I love us as a team, and I hope we make more movies together. I’m lucky to have found somebody that champions original filmmaking like that.”
